Become Involved

Community members are invited to become involved with the garden, either as a Friend of the Garden or as a Gardener.  Community Gardening Days are held on the 2nd Sunday of each month from 10am (Summer/Autumn) and from 1pm (Winter/Spring).  All welcome (BYO gardening gloves!).

Become a Gardener
Gardeners are actively committed to the planning, growing and harvest of the communal garden.  Gardeners can expect to commit to a planting, harvest and working bee day each month, as well as a further 1-2 hours a week of their available time.  A seasonal planting plan, developed by the gardeners, will guide what is planted in the garden as well as the ongoing maintenance of the garden.  There are areas put aside for gardeners to grow personal plants of interest or liking, but there are no individual plots.  On the community days, the available harvest will be shared with those present, and gardeners are welcome to harvest a reasonable share of anything that is ready to pick at any other time.  Gardeners can expect to harvest seasonal fruit and vegetable crops and herbs, learn a lot and have some fun along the way. No experience is necessary, just a desire to grow your own food!

Several places are open to join the gardening group for 2013.  Please email your interest to the garden: northcotelibraryfoodgarden@gmail.com
